Shiatsu is a gentle form of massage and manipulation developed in Japan during the early twentieth century.
It is based on an earlier form of traditional Japanese massage and incorporates the same principles as acupuncture, using a combination of stretches and acupressure to free the flow of energy in the body. By improving the way that this energy (called “chi”) flows through the body shiatsu can help with a range of ailments such as stress, anxiety, muscular pain and fatigue. Even if there is no specific problem to be treated shiatsu is a relaxing therapy which can reduce tension in general.
Treatments are carried out on the floor (on a futon) and usually fully clothed. The first treatment will include a consultation to identify what specific areas, if any, might require focus and attention.
