Swedish massage is possibly the most classic style of Western massage available today. In fact, the term “Swedish massage” is somewhat inaccurate as it was neither developed in Sweden nor by a Swede.
Across Europe and elsewhere it is more commonly referred to as classic massage, with “Swedish” typically only being used by English speaking nations.
Regardless of its origins (more information here if you are interested), Swedish massage has been show to help with pain relief and stiffness in joints as well as being a great way to work out some of the tension that the majority of us accumulate over time.
There are five basic movements that characterise Swedish massage:
- Stroking
- Kneading
- Striking
- Rubbing
- Vibration
Various combinations are used during a session based on your requirements and goals. To book a treatment or speak to someone that can advise if Swedish massage is right for you, give us a call on 01926 316500 or get in touch using our contact form.
